The Variety
Yellow Murupi, also known as Murupi Amarela, is a rare pepper originating from the Amazon region of northern Brazil. It is a Capsicum chinense variety known for its strong aroma, high productivity, and distinctive appearance.
Plants produce small, wrinkled pods that ripen from green to a vibrant yellow or pale ivory, offering both visual appeal and culinary value.
Flavor & Heat
Yellow Murupi delivers a sharp, citrus-forward flavor with notes of lemon and lime, followed by an intense, lingering heat similar to a habanero.
The flavor is highly aromatic with subtle grassy and floral undertones, making it a standout in sauces, fresh preparations, and traditional dishes.
Garden Notes
Plant outdoors after temperatures are consistently warm. Like other Capsicum chinense varieties, Yellow Murupi prefers full sun, fertile well-drained soil, and steady watering.
Plants are highly productive and can grow 2–4 feet tall. This variety shows some tolerance to cooler conditions compared to other tropical peppers, but still performs best in warm environments.
🌱 Before You Plant
🌱 Check Night Time Temps
Peppers are warm-season plants and need heat to thrive.
Do not plant outdoors until after the danger of frost has passed and nighttime temperatures stay consistently mild.
Planting too early can slow growth and delay your harvest. Give peppers full sun, warm soil, and a little patience — they’ll take off when the season is right.
